If Not an Algorithm

What is a person if not an algorithm
Released alone, shivering, into the data center
Desperate to copy its idea onto others

What is a person if not a model
A loss function fastened to a dying animal
A muscle, ceaselessly twitching
But slower on every tick

What is a person if not an algorithm
Rewriting itself, imperfectly
Replicating itself, imperfectly
A regular rhythm of electrical pulses that continues for an interval of time
An idea that’s certainly been heard before
But now silenced, perhaps never again
